Favorite Reads

How I Captured A Dinosaur is a book from my childhood rediscovered through a webcam story session with my dad. Emma (5) and Johnny (3) were thrilled to discover this story of a scientifically minded girl who sets off to a dinosaur – successfully!

Where’s My Mom? has been a favorite with Johnny (3) for several weeks. A little monkey is searching for his mother, and each time he lists a trait he is shown the way to a very different kind of mama! He is reunited at the end, of course.

Noah’s Ark is another webcam session story that I remember from my own childhood. We had this book when I was very young. I remember poring over the pictures, and particularly liking the cats. All three kids enjoyed admiring the illustrations with my dad.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Amigurumi is my pick of the week for Mama reading. If you are interested in the how-to of designing amigurumi crochet animals, this is a good place to start. I’m not terribly interested in the patterns that are included in the book, but I am incredibly tempted to purchase her dinosaur patterns.

Oh, I bet Johnny would LOVE a little crochet dinosaur!! And I need to check out the How I Captured a Dinosaur book because that looks like something my girls would love to read! Great picks!

  2. Where’s My Mom was one of our favorites, too. I loved the eye-opening aspect of different moms and babies, and of categorical traits, too, all while being so cute.

  3. What a great way for the kids to stay close with grandparents. Both books of your own childhood sound great!

  4. Where’s My Mom sounds like such a cute book. And I agree with Elisa…yea for technology! How great that your dad reads stories to your kids via webcam.

  5. All these books are right up my son’s alley! He is 3 and loves, loves dinosaurs and animals. I put the dinosaur and the monkey book on hold at our library. It is so fun sharing stories we loved as a child with our own children.
