Lily spent probably thirty minutes putting this small pony in and out of the empty Q-tips box she claimed. It’s a game that probably every child has played at some point, and a fantastic way to learn about spatial reasoning and object permanence.

She already seems so patient and eager to learn. You are going to have another smart one on your hands! My boys all just want to go, go, go all day and never sit still, except Joe, he is my learner:-)…even more so than Hanna!

@Quadmama – It’s so unpredictable what they will get into, too!
@LiEr – Oh no! Here’s hoping Lily doesn’t discover that activity anytime soon!
@Elise – That blog was new to me, too, until she linked up. I’m so glad she did, because she shares some fantastic ideas!
Precious times. Watching your children engrossed in simple activities that they have discovered and enjoy is priceless.
I popped over to Cathy’s Nurture Store and am amazed that I had not been there before. Needless to say, I will now be following this creative blog. Thank you for sharing it.

Alas, my Kate has found HER 30-minute activity: digging in Mum’s make-up drawer and decorating oneself. Lots of lessons in Object Permanence and Spatial Awareness, unfortunately coupled with Nailpolish Fumes Are Bad, Face Powder Does Not Dust Off Clothes Easily and Discipline Hurts.
Lily is on the right track. Qtip packaging and small ponies are much better.

It’s so funny how the simplest things can keep them engrossed for so long… and teach them so much.

@Valerie – My kids always seem to love the simplest activities best – well, the simple ones and the messy ones!
@Natalie – Great point, I didn’t even think about that!
@Ticia – SO true!
It always amuses me the things that occupy them forever. Of course when you think it will do that, it doesn’t actually keep them occupied.

Lily looks so preoccupied – it’s definitely also a good workout for those chubby fingers and wrists. Sand pictures look interesting!

LOL I remember my girls pulling toys in and out of boxes when they were little too! I was surprised how much time they spent totally engrossed in such a simple activity. Love the photo!

Vi was doing some in-and-out today, and she clapped when she got everything back in. :)
Love Lily’s outfit. It’s so wonderful to see children this young engrossed in an activity. They learn so rapidly!

@Elisa – I love that dress too – it was a baby present from a good friend =)
