Yoga, Culture, and Literacy for kids! + Worldwide Giveaway

2013_10_23_9999_11

Longtime readers of this blog know that I have a passion for teaching kids about the world. My bloggy friend Giselle of Kids Yoga Stories shares this passion, as well as a love of yoga! Giselle guest posted for my world culture for kids series a while back, sharing yoga poses to go along with famous Australian landmarks and Australian icons. She also writes delightful children’s books that weave world culture and yoga for kids together! Today I want to write about one of these books: The ABC’s of Australian Animals.

This is like many other animal ABC books written for children, but with the added bonus of yoga poses! All of my kids love Giselle’s books (we have several, and love them all!), but seven-year-old Emma especially enjoys reading through the books and trying out the various poses.

My other kids are a little young to figure out the poses on their own, but we enjoy reading the books and trying these simple yoga moves together as a family. I love that my kids are learning about the world, developing a love for yoga, and reading at the same time. What a winning combination!

Giselle has kindly offered a copy of this book for a reader of my blog – and, in true global awareness fashion, she is willing to ship anywhere in the world! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post telling me which of her other books you think your kids would enjoy, and fill out the Google form below:

This giveaway has now ended. Congratulations, Jenna O.!

Which Australian animal do you love? I adore koala bears, and have a crochet pattern for one that I need to get made up, one of these days!

Giselle kindly gave us a copy of her book. I wrote this post because I love her books, and I think you will too. All opinions are my own.

  1. Thank you for the give away. I think my daughter will love Sophia’s Jungle Adventure. She loves animals.I am so happy that I came across this site as I took her for baby yoga classes when she was 3months.

  2. As a homeschooling mum, who teaches free yoga to our little community here in country Western Australia, I love having kids yoga books for the little ones to look through, and i love watching them make the poses and new ones too!

  3. Thanks MaryAnne,
I appreciate the information. However, wouldn’t you know that as soon as I hit the “post comment” button, I realised you had provided the link to her site and followed it straight away. I am now looking forward to receiving the two books I ordered. Thank you for the great post. My granddaughter will love the books. 😀

  4. We have Luke’s Beach Day and we love it – Giselle writes incredible books! I think the kangaroo is my favorite Australian animal and I think my girls would love Anna and her Rainbow-Colored Yoga Mats! Thank you for the world-wide giveaway!

  5. I think my daughter would really like Anna and her Rainbow-Colored Yoga Mats. Giselle’s books are amazing!

  6. Thank you for the lovely giveaway! Kids will really love this, imaginary trips gets them really excited! And all kids love animals as well, they would really enjoy this book over and over! Another book that looks really nice is Anna and her rainbow-colored yoga mats and not only because of the beautiful cover!

  7. How awesome! I’m waiting for my copy of Luke’s Beach Day from her, and I can’t wait to write about it, too. It will be interesting to see how my 4 year old reacts to it; I have a feeling he’ll love Yoga!

  8. I am SO glad I came upon this post!! I’m a long time yogi and have managed to pass my love of yoga along to my 3 and 4-year-old sons (as well as some of the kids I work with as an occupational therapist). My kids would LOVE these stories – they always gravitate toward yoga poses when there are pictures or references to animals. The ABCs of Australian Animals looks beautiful and Luke’s Beach Day is now on my list to buy for Christmas! Thanks so much for sharing Giselle’s stories!

  9. Oooh, I would love to win this. If i had to pick another one I would pick Luke’s Beach day. My son’s name is Luke and we love the beach. It looks awesome. Thanks so much for the giveaway.
