Window Art for Kids!

2013_02_24_9999_1

My kids really enjoyed making this cute window art using some new-for-2013 kits from ALEX toys! We were sent the Alex Super Window Sticker Art and Window Sticker Art – Zoom kits, and I see both kits getting a lot of use at our house! I’ve also added these to my recommended presents for kids list!

Each kit comes with “pens”, thick plastic to make the window sticker on, and images you can trace. You can also draw your own images, or trace other pictures you have in your house. My kids thought the ALEX pictures were pretty cute, and so they traced several of them. I’m hoping they’ll draw some pictures of their own to trace, next time!

The “pens” were super easy to use – no tips to cut off, and very easy for the kids to control. The kids outlined their pictures first, let that dry for a couple hours, and then filled it in. This was easiest for Emma to do, and she wound up helping Johnny and Lily with theirs quite a bit.

You need to fill in the entire image for it to stay together as a sticker. The “ink” starts out quite thick, but it flattens down as it dries. Making thicker lines with the black outliner works best – you can see where some colors bled through gaps in Johnny’s spaceship at the top of this post.

After the image is filled in, set it aside for 24 hours to dry, and then it’s ready to peel off and place on any glass surface you choose! My kids have moved these around quite a bit, playing with them, and they haven’t fallen apart.

I really like how the stickers are translucent – they look like stained glass on the window!

Have you ever made window stickers?

I was sent these kits for free as an ALEX Toys blogger. All opinions are my own.

  1. I’ve never heard of the windows sticker before – sounds a little like Shrinky Dinks with delayed gratification built in :) I love how the results look like.

What a terrific craft!!! I love your picture with snow and trees in the background. The contrast between the vivid kid art and the idyllic black and white forest is stunning!

  3. These are AWESOME. I want some. I mean, for my kids of course. These seem like they would be a long-lasting sort of toy for kids. Uh oh, my daughter just spied this post and wants some now, too…

  4. Your kids did those? A-really super – mazing!

Man, I wish I had half their talent.

This looks like something that would be super popular in our house – but I wonder about the mess. Hhmmm?

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. That looks like a lot of fun! We’ve purchased window clings and my little guy LOVES arranging (and rearranging…) them. I saw somewhere that we could make them with puffy paint, which we may try, but this would probably be more successful!
