Setting Goals for February 2014

2014_01_26_9999_51

January flew by in our house – I can’t believe it’s already time to set goals for February! A lot of time was spent with doctor’s appointments for Anna, who had to endure an MRI and several other appointments on top of her regular physical therapy. Her MRI did show some irregularities that could be tied to her gross motor issues, but brains are confusing things and the abnormalities they weren’t necessarily outside the range of what you would find in a typically developing toddler. It was a big relief to rule out several serious potential issues, and Anna is getting better at walking every day! I’m very grateful that she is doing well!

January wasn’t all work – we enjoyed lovely get-togethers with my bloggy friends Natalie and Maya, as well as some friends we knew when we lived in California over a decade ago. We got to know new friends better, enjoyed playing with my nephew who lives nearby, and I even went to a voice recital – reliving my undergraduate life for one evening. Emma, Johnny, and Lily were all happy to go back to school.

As for my January goals, I think I got the kids registered for school, although the school district is giving me grief over one form that we just don’t have – and they won’t take the alternative form that they accepted when I registered Emma and Johnny because they think we have been here too long. I’ve never been a fan of school district bureaucracy, so hopefully we can get this resolved in February. I’m also really hoping to get the kids into our neighborhood school in the fall, but there are no guarantees. Their overflow school continues to be very accommodating, which I really appreciate! I didn’t get a lot done on the home organization front – too many other things going on, but the house stayed reasonably clean most of the time. Emma’s birthday party is all planned except for invitations, which need to go out soon! I wound up making a few changes to my blog layout, and upgrading the server since it was crashing a little too frequently.

Setting Goals for February 2014

February is a short and busy month for us, so I plan to keep goals simple:

  • Send out Emma’s birthday party invitations. Theme: gratitude
  • Celebrate Emma’s birthday. Theme: gratitude
  • Make sure the kids get all of their classroom valentines done. Themes: gratitude and responsibility
  • Make sure the kids really are registered for school next year. Theme: education
  • Clean out my email inboxes. Theme: simplicity
  • Finish the skirt I have sitting on the table upstairs. Themes: education and responsibility

What are you hoping to get done in February?

  1. I LOVE your goals. Besides having a Valentine’s date night with hubby, my “big” goal for February is to make 10 thoughtful crafts for my close friends and “drop” them off at their house during RAK week–my son will be helping me. We’ll also be making heart sugar cookies and valentines and maybe we’ll try dropping off some food to our local food pantry. This month it’s all about spreading love and kindness!

  2. I’m so glad that things are looking up for Anna! And, I love that your focus area for Emma’s birthday party is gratitude. Such a simple reminder that birthdays are more than just a party! Here’s to February :)

  3. Great goals. I registered J for school too. He is so excited though I think he’ll be sad that his preschool friends won’t be in his kindergarten class. My goal: I hope to host a Science Saturday in February. It’s looking like the last weekend is the best right now, so it might get moved to March if the weather is bad. That and beginning the nesting phase of cleaning out the house enough to fit a new baby and her stuff in it.

    1. Ooh, we’ll definitely try to come if you end up being able to host one! Send me an email if you would like to try to bring J over to play sometime this month.

  4. We were very happy to get to know you in person too! I am glad that Anna’s walking is improving – she seems like a very inquisitive and happy baby!

  5. Glad that you were able to rule out some possibilities, but how worrisome to still have lots of questions with no answers both with the medical and school registration.

I am continuously inspired by you to set reasonable goals centered around my parenting beliefs. Thank you for being so encouraging!

  6. What a smart and lovely idea to have goals written down. I think it would make life little more planned and less stressful. I will have to try that too, because as of now I am planning only for the next 5 minutes, max 1 hours.
Btw, your daughter is gorgeous, it looks like she has your smile. I hope things with motor skills will go better.
    Love your blog.

  7. I’ve been meaning to tell you that your blog looks great. I love the new layout. I’m hoping to finish some sewing projects and some painting projects. I can’t stand unfinished projects.

The Olympics . . . Love the Olympics!

  9. Once again, I love your goals! I love that you found out that little bit is progressing and that you can rule out anything major! She sure looks like a happy baby. I am a bit jealous that you get to hang out with our bloggy friends :). I love how you keep your goals very specific.
    Happy Birthday to everyone.

  10. January was such a hectic month for me too. My February goals are:
    1) Catch up
    2) Catch my breath
    3) Don’t overschedule
    4) And I always am inspired by your goal of gratitude so I am adding that too.

Wonderful that you’ve been able to rule some potential issues out for Anna and that she’s making physical progress, even as the investigation continues medically. Hope you get confirmation of a great, convenient school situation for your kids, soon.

Planning to have my first midwife visit of this 5th pregnancy this month. :) :)

  12. I’m glad to hear that serious concerns were ruled out after the MRI.

I am not a fan of school bureaucracy either. I hope it is all resolved.

  13. I love your goals and am so glad to hear that there are no major concerns with Anna. Hopefully you get the school stuff worked out soon. I feel full of gratitude that there is a charter school about 10 minutes from our house that Wild Thing will be in next year for Kindergarten, and that my husband has been consulting with the school this year. It’s one less thing to worry about. Now, I just need to decide if I will put Caterpillar in preschool next August (at just 3) or wait a year. We’ll see!

  14. I’m glad you were able to rule out serious issues with Anna. I’m kind of concerned with one of my twins too because he’s a bit late on the whole gross motor skills thing. Perfectly fine every other way, and I’m just hoping he’s just taking his time.

As for goals, very similar to yours: plan my kids’ birthday parties, make the older one’s Valentines :)

    1. I didn’t realize all of your kids were February babies – that makes for a busy month!

All of my kids have qualified for early intervention at one point or another, and I highly recommend their services if you ever decide to look into getting help. I have been incredibly impressed with everyone we have worked with, both in Massachusetts and in California.
