Emma and Johnny examine the instructions for their new Mega Bloks set

When Team Mom contacted me about the possibility of reviewing the new Mega Bloks Dora’s Garden Gazebo set, I was intrigued. I was first introduced to Mega Bloks as a kid, when my parents got us a set for Christmas in 1987. I have fond memories of playing with those blocks! I was happy to see that, while the design of the product has changed over the years, those changes have improved the product! The blocks are easy to put together, and stay together pretty well. three-year-old Johnny needed help changing out Dora’s outfit, but five-year-old Emma was able to do it on her own.

Emma and Johnny were thrilled with this set. They enjoyed looking at the pictures on the box, and setting it up to look exactly like the picture – as well as experimenting to see what else they could do with the set. The one thing they would change would be for it to feature Diego and Alicia instead of (or in addition to) Dora.

Building with Mega Bloks

Emma immediately claimed Dora as her own; Johnny was equally happy with the tiny blue bird, so we escaped conflict. Lily hasn’t shown much interest, which is probably best since she’s too young for the recommended age range (3+) and we were out of characters. The timing for this set was perfect, since we are working on our own backyard garden!
