Quick and Easy Kids Crafts: Tissue Paper and Contact Paper

contact paper and tissue paper collages make quick and easy kid crafts!

I like to use mixed media kids crafts to get my kids thinking creatively! I run monthly kids craft sessions for my local mother’s club, and we recently made the always-popular tissue paper collages. Johnny (five years old) and Lily (three years old) were thrilled to put theirs up on the window when we got home, but they also wanted to make more! They had to wait a few days until we got more contact paper, but when it arrived, they got very creative with it, each putting tissue paper squares on a length of contact paper that we then stuck directly to the wall. This is Johnny’s – he drew the faces, hair, and hands on the back before we stuck it to the wall:

This is Lily’s. She stuck the stickers on the front after we stuck it to the wall. She likes to move hers around her room, and so far it is still sticking.

Here are a few other ways we use contact paper:

How do you use contact paper in your house? Do you have a favorite mixed media art activity for kids?

  1. I love this activity – and how EASY (you know me, it’s gotta be easy if it’s art) it is!

We are going to do this! On my list of things to do with the kids!

    Thanks for the great idea!

  2. Cool! My kids made ones with flowers and leaves in preschool. They still look great! I have one hanging in my car and one in the living room. I should get some. It looks like it makes collages so easy!

Oh I love this idea for a mess-free craft – so much scope for creativity!! Is it difficult to cut out the tissue paper squares so evenly? I’ve never tried to use tissue paper for anything but gift wrap.

    1. It’s not hard at all – I wasn’t even trying to do it particularly evenly. I think it is easiest if you cut multiple layers at a time – maybe 4 or 5.

    1. It’s one of my favorite rainy day activities – it can keep kids busy for quite a while, and the only mess is the little tissue paper squares, which are easy to sweep up!

  4. I’ve been wanting to do a contact paper craft but I never remember to buy the contact paper. These are so cute – I love how Johnny added the face and hands.
