Loom knit doll cradle

loom knit doll cradle

Weren’t Emma and Johnny darling in their hats yesterday? The hats were Christmas presents from my fifteen-year-old sister, who made them using this loom set. If you would like to try knitting but are scared of knitting needles, these round looms are very straightforward to use, and they come with great instructions! My sister introduced me to them during our family reunion, and I used the largest and the smallest looms to make this doll cradle. The bottom of the cradle is made using the smallest size, with the fabric doubled up into a tube (to make a soft mattress) that is sewn onto a tube made using the largest loom. Then I rolled the edge over so it would stand up (it stays rolled on its own), and gave it to Lily for Christmas. She likes to wear it as a hat when she isn’t using it as a baby bed! The green blanket is a washcloth made by Megan of Fowl Single File – isn’t it pretty? I meant to use it to wash the dishes, but my kids think it is much too beautiful for such a menial chore!

  1. Jenny’s comment above is cute!

I love all that you’ve been creating with needle and thread lately! This is such a huge talent of yours Mary Anne. If you were here, we’d be enlisting you to teach some sewing classes for sure:-)!

  2. How fun! I love this cradle that can also double as a hat. Craftiness definitely runs in your family.

What a beautiful gift!! And I’m glad you listened to your kids: that washcloth is much too pretty for scrubbing.

  4. That is cute. Abby would love that, she’s always making new doll beds with blankets, pillows, whatever she can find.

Maybe I need the kit? We were talking the other day and I asked “What kind of things does a good Mom do?” She said, “Knit”. LOL! I have never knitted before.

    1. @Jenny – Abby is so funny! I bet you would enjoy the kit. It really is easy to use, and I bet Abby would enjoy using it too when she’s a couple years older!

  5. You never cease to amaze me with the way you try new and creative projects. How fun to learn new skills and your children (and sister with her baby carrier) benefit so much with their gorgeous mummy made gifts.
