Kid Quotes: What Should I Dream About?

2013_09_17_9999_2

Johnny (five years old): What should I dream about so I don’t have scary dreams?
Mama: How about puppies and kittens?
Johnny: But if I dream about kittens, I might dream about them scratching me with their claws.
Mama: Maybe you can dream about kittens who had their claws removed.
Johnny: What? How would that happen?
Mama: Maybe you should just dream about puppies.
Johnny: Okay.

Emma (seven years old): Hey mom, are you as good at chess as dad?
Mama: No.
Emma: I think I would rather play you than dad, then.

Johnny (five years old), running in from outside
I just saw a wolf!!! Or a bear! Or a monster! Or a dinosaur!

Driving past my childhood library
Mama: That’s the library I went to when I was a little girl!
Emma (seven years old): Woah! That means it must be old! [pause] Is it still open?
Mama: I think so.
Emma: [in awe that something so old could still be functional] Wow.

  1. Anna is soooooo cute!!!

Love all these quotes. I’m glad your “old” library is still going strong. :)

  2. These are just so gorgeous. It reminds me of my daughter when she was about 5 and constantly asking me about the olden days when I was a little girl. She also had a great sense of humour. One day she said, “Mum. Tell me a story of when you were a little girl.” And then, with perfect timing, added, “What were the dinosaurs like?” We both had a wonderful laugh together.

  3. These are all hilarious!! Thanks for sharing. J thinks nightmares are actual beings, “I had a dream that the nightmares were chasing me…”

  4. My granddaughter asked my daughter if I was in my 80’s and When a friend of mine got married years ago (I think it was in the 80’s) and she had her first child soon after, when her daughter was 6 she asked her mom if in her days they had ketchup and telephones?

  5. LOL on the last one. Smarty recently told us that she thinks we lived in rural communities, because “there were not that many cities in the times of old”. She was shocked when we told her that both of us come from cities with more than one million people living in them.
