July 2012 Goals!

crocheted baby hat

What I did instead of meeting one of my goals this month…

It’s already July!!! June was lovely for us. We had mostly nice weather, we enjoyed end-of-school activities, and we are embracing our summer downtime! I did pretty well on my June goals, with the exception of the girls’ dresses – although Lily’s dress, at least, is on its way to being finished – all it needs is three buttons, so I need to sort through my button collection and find something that works. You can see the evidence on instagram :) Then I need to finish Emma’s dress. Then Johnny has a request in for a quilt like Lily’s, and Emma is begging for me to let her use the sewing machine by herself… maybe she could sew Johnny’s quilt?

I did make the crocheted baby hat pictured above during some of my sewing procrastination time! Isn’t it pretty? I can’t wait to put it on our little baby girl!

thirsties diaper covers

The baby’s clothes are washed, and I got these adorable Thirsties Duo Wrap diaper covers. Still working on the inserts, which I’m making by serging upcycled flannel receiving blankets, and old flannel sheets. I still have my cloth wipes stash, which I made by serging squares mostly cut from old flannel pajamas.

My 17-year-old sister is coming to stay with us mid-July, and I am super excited about that! My kids are also VERY excited – K is an incredibly fun Aunt, and she will be here for nearly a month!

Goals for July:

  • Pack a hospital bag. Soon would probably be wise. Target Areas: peace and health
  • Finish the girls’ dresses. Target Area: gratitude (for my daughters’ patience – these dresses were started nearly a year ago, good thing I cut them out BIG!)
  • Serge diaper inserts. Target Area: peace and health
  • Finish the dragon I’m crocheting for Lily’s birthday. Target Areas: education (for me) and gratitude (for my wonderful nearly-three-year-old)
  • Keep spending lots of time outside. Target Areas: gratitude, peace, and health
  • Keep eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Target Areas: health, education, and peace
  • Celebrate my 32nd birthday! Target Area: gratitude
  • Enjoy spending time with my sister. Super easy goal! Target Area: gratitude

Please, please, please, consider donating to the American Cancer Society if you haven’t done so already? We’re closing down this fundraiser after Wednesday. This cause is all the more important to me as this week we learned that both one of our closest friends from college AND the wife of one of Mike’s coworkers have malignant melanoma – two people we care deeply about hit with one of many cancers that still need a lot of research. Thank you so very much to those who have already contributed!

  1. LOVE the hat! Would you share the pattern?? I’m trying to find a pretty pattern for my 8 month old granddaughter and this is about the prettiest one I’ve seen!! Thank you!!

  2. Such a lovely email… Yes.. its important.. All of it.. But we hardly have time to think..

So truly happy for you.. and I love that hat.. and the colour..

Thank you for linking in to Made with Love :)

  3. I love that crochet hat! Did you work it off a pattern? I’d love to know. I crochet baby hats for NICU babies at my local hospital and I’m always looking for fun new ideas.

    1. My aunt designed the pattern, and I was testing it for her. I can email her and let her know that you are interested in it, if you would like?

  4. I cannot imagine when you find time to get everything done! Happy upcoming birthday!

Beautiful hat! Isn’t it funny what we manage to accomplish while we think we should be accomplishing something else? :) :)

Love your goals, especially that you have a hospital bag and dragon on the same list. Awesome!!

Thanks for hosting this linky – I look forward to it every month. :)

    1. I am always so motivated to accomplish other things instead of what I *should* be doing!

I packed the baby clothes this morning, when the more important hospital bag items are probably my own…

Thanks so much for joining my linky every month! It helps motivate me to accomplish my goals!

  6. I love that hat – one of my 2012 goals is to learn to crochet I would love to make T something like that for next Spring but I suspect that as the current state of my crochet always looks like a flower pot that it’s not going to happen this year.

My next make is a winter dress for T. I have the material and the pattern just need to make it.

    1. I hope you get T’s dress done sooner than I’m getting these done! I cut them out LAST year!

    1. I am very excited! She tries to come out every year, but wasn’t able to the last two summers.

    1. I think it will be cute – it’s probably the most challenging pattern I’ve tried so far. I had to make the head TWICE to get it right! I have the body and arms done – need to do wings, paws, and the scales on its back – and then stitch it all together.

      1. Most challenging amigurumi project, at least. I made two versions of that hat, too, got that pattern wrong the first time too.

    1. I will be very surprised if this one comes early – mine are always late. But definitely still a good idea, just in case.

  7. I don’t think you can call creating a hat that cute procrastination! It is absolutely adorable! I’m sure the girls dresses will be just as gorgeous.

  8. I love setting goals – it’s something I need to do more (that process time). I so love your target areas – it’s not always about the goal but about how it helps us to improve, stay grounded, etc. Nice to have your sis there (for you and the kids :0 Can’t wait to see the new baby! Take care!

  9. So happy for you and your family!

    & Happy Birthday!!!

Pretty dress : ) Buttons! They have kept me from finishing more than one sewing project!

So impressed with your hand made wipes and inserts!!! Your kids must have happy bottoms!
