Fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Andie of Crayon Freckles has a baby girl on the way, and she decided to celebrate by raising awareness and money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I don’t have a baby on the way (wouldn’t that be fun?), but I’m a big fan of hospitals that help children, and I’m thrilled to be part of this project!
One of the most amazing things about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is that no family ever has to pay for the care they receive. This means that families can receive medical care for their child that might not otherwise have been available to them. Incredible!
Here are a few quick facts about St. Jude (source):
  • St. Jude sees over 67,000 child patients each year.
  • It costs $1.9 million to run St. Jude each day. These funds come primarily from individual contributions.
  • The treatments developed at St. Jude have helped to raise the childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent in the past 50 years.
My best friend from college is working at St. Jude right now – the friend whose bridal veil I made a few years ago. She loves her patients, and works incredibly hard.

  1. Aww, thank you for this :)

St. Jude is really a one-of-a-kind institution and serves children with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders. There is a lot of hope and love in the air at St. Jude, and there is cutting-edge research happening every day to increase chances of survival and cure. Compared to many pediatric hospitals, St. Jude also pushes to help kids enjoy as ‘normal’ a life as possible — so they often live in outside family housing provided by St. Jude and come into the hospital for outpatient treatment rather than having to stay hospitalized all the time.

Patients and families that come through are quite wonderful and courageous, and a joy to get to know — and, as a clinician, it is really satisfying to know that they are receiving the best treatments available and a good majority are going to survive long-term and thrive.

Long-term survival rates are increasing every day. With that said, it is still a lovely miracle to see you and your family thrive after your experience with pediatric cancer. :D

Absolutely wonderful! Love to see people helping parents and blessing children!

  3. Hmmmm….. I have a couple, but one of my favorites is our local crisis pregnancy center. They do a lot to help parents in need and teach them how to be good parents. It’s a great ministry. Oh, and I just thought of another one. There’s a lot of great charities for young kids.

  4. Amazing!! Something makes me think that the incredible generosity involved has something to do with the incredible inroads their treatments are making against cancer…
