Favorite Reads: Each Kid’s Favorite This Week

Two-year-old Lily never tires of hearing us read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? I remember my siblings adoring Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See at around the same age. We have the both books, but Lily seems to prefer the polar bear book. I think the illustrations combined with the predictable text make this a perfect read-aloud book for toddlers.

I grabbed Otto the Book Bear off the library shelf, because the bear on the cover made me think of bear-loving four-year-old Johnny. Sure enough, he loves this book! The story charmingly tells of a bear who steps out of his book and has adventures when he isn’t being read, and it reminds me of The Little Green Dragon Steps Out – another book purchased by my parents for one of my younger siblings and much-adored by the entire family.

I borrowed Crafty Chloe from the library after reading about it at Mouse Grows, Mouse Learns because I thought craft-loving Emma (six years old) would enjoy it. I was not disappointed! Emma has read this book through several times, and I’m sure we will eventually move on to making some of the crafts from the book. In the meantime, she is very busily putting together a carefully crafted present for a friend’s birthday this week!

What books are your kids loving this week?

Wanted to add that Lily seems to be very tuned in aurally, with her love of onomatopoeias and enjoying the “what do you hear?” Carl book.

    1. I think you’re right! She also loves music and makes up little songs all the time, too. Sings her play narration, actually – a bit like having a mini musical in the house :)

Goodnight Moon is 2-year-old Vi’s current favourite, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is 4-year-old Michael’s, and 5-year-old Nikki is busy memorising Curly Girl: The Handbook, a reference guide about how to care for curly hair.

    1. I need Nikki’s book! I have mixed feelings about none of my kids inheriting my curly hair – straight is so much easier, but I like the curls :)

I got “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” for Johnny, but so far he doesn’t like it. Maybe because they are scared of the bear? I have very fond memories of reading it with younger siblings! And, while “Goodnight Moon” hasn’t become a favorite for any of my children, it’s grown on me with each baby :)
