Easy DIY Curb Appeal Project: Paint the Porch

2013_05_27_9999_2

Our house was built in the early sixties, and back then it was red wood with red bricks, and a concrete porch that was also, apparently, painted red. The red bricks are still there, but vinyl siding has replaced the red wood, and the red paint was mostly gone from the front porch, and Mike felt that the remaining bits were destroying our curb appeal. We didn’t really want to re-paint it red, so Mike started researching options, and settled on a special paint for concrete.

He scrubbed the porch, gave it a good acid wash, let that dry, and set to work painting – first primer, and then paint.

I’m hardly a detail-oriented person, so I didn’t think the red paint remnants were a big deal. But I have to agree that the porch looks more cheerful now!

We highly recommend waiting for a day that is both sunny AND non-windy for this project!

    1. Oh, we had a similar unwanted home improvement experience with our dryer last month – better the dryer than the washing machine, though! Gazebos are wonderful outdoor spaces!

Glad you caught some non-rainy time to do this! Your front porch looks nice!!

We have a lot of DIY lined up. First I need to find and put up blackout curtains in the playroom, then we can rearrange furniture so that the playroom becomes the master bedroom and the master bedroom becomes a music room / guest room. After that we can start breaking up the brickwork around our current fireplace and replace that with a gas fireplace instead of wood-burning. Then we can paint the living room after the plasterwork we had done three years ago! Long, slow process…

  2. Looks great! We are still working on patching the endless holes my kids seem to punch down the stairway walls. They are horsehair plaster so they do move a bit; my kids are not that rough but seriously holes everywhere! Plus plaster patched over it but my husband has yet to paint it over. Maybe this summer now that it’s here.

  3. It looks good and hopefully will help your house sell faster! We are finally installing a new front door next week :)
