Decorate a Monster Stuffie Tutorial

Making this little monster is easy!

  1. Download the pattern above.
  2. Cut out of muslin (any cotton fabric works, actually. Stay away from fabrics like fleece and minky that are hard to color).
  3. Sew wrong sides together, leaving an opening for stuffing.
  4. Turn right side out.
  5. Stuff. We love cluster stuff!
  6. Hand stitch closed.
  7. Hand to a child to decorate.

I drew faces on with a Sharpie pen (a fabric marker works even better, but I don’t have any). You can also leave the faces for kids to draw on themselves!

Use sharpie or fabric pens for a permanent effect, or decorate them with washable markers, wash, and decorate again. We used Crayola washable markers on ours, and Emma was able to get all of the marker off her monster by bathing it in a small bin of plain water. Then we wrung it out, let it dry for a few hours, and it was good to go for another round of decorating!

  11. What a wonderful idea! My girl is only 14 months, so I wouldn’t trust her with markers quite yet, but the monster is cute even in his “naked” state in the meantime….
