Craft-A-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects

Book review for a Craft-A-Day, a delightful book featuring 365 simple handmade projects to keep your creating all year round.

Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows that we are a craft-loving family. So I was thrilled to receive a review copy of Craft-a-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects. This book lives up to its description beautifully! I think this book is perfect for elementary school teachers looking for classroom décor ideas, parents who are interested in simple crafts to make with their kids, birthday party theme ideas, and anyone who enjoys making cute cards or small felt stuffies.

The book is subdivided into weeks, and each week has a theme. The crafts for that week follow the theme, and each week has a combination of felt and paper crafts. Emma (6 years old) flipped through the book and made this set of bunny ears from Bunny Week (April 2-8) all by herself:

Johnny wanted a stuffed penguin, so we opened the book and, sure enough, found a pattern for this cute penguin from Penguin Week (April 23-29):

I sewed the penguin up for him, as it was urgently needed for some serious adventures (see below), but Emma is working on a stuffed raccoon (October 1-7 is Raccoon Week) all on her own!

LOVE the photo of Penguin and Johnny having an adventure! Emma looks adorable with her bunny ears. :)

  2. I’ll have to check this one out! NO we don’t have a favorite…

We have Nature’s Art Box out from the Library right now which looks nice.

  3. I love that it’s separated by themes, you can easily expand on the crafts. Im off to look it up, maybe it’s on iPad? :)

  4. I think this book is perfect for your family :) My goal for the next year is to teach Anna how to sew more – I am inspired by Emma’s abilities!

  5. I love these projects and HAVE to get that book. It looks like it would be a great gift for my stepdaughter who has small children in need of entertaining for the holidays… WOO! HOO!

This is so funny because I just posted how I do not do many crafts with the children. I like art, art techniques and free expression. I do very much like teaching the children how to sew. I consider sewing an important skill and yes a lovely form of art!
