Chex Mix Party!

This giveaway has now ended. Congratulations, Jen!

getting ready for our chex mix party

A couple weeks ago we got a fun package from MyBlogSpark and Chex challenging us to a Chex Party Mix-Change. Our entire household likes Chex cereal, and their gluten-free cereals are great to have on hand for when family members with gluten allergies are visiting!

Our box came with a five different recipes to try. We invited over a bunch of kids, and set to work. Here our guests admire the cute little take-out containers we were sent, while Emma wonders what is in A’s box (nothing, yet):

We wound up with ten kids aged 7 months to five. All of them (except the 7-month-old) helped pour and mix. Utter pandemonium, but a lot of fun! I had never made Chex Mix before, and I discovered that it’s pretty easy, especially if you do the microwave versions. I was afraid the Chex Mix would be soggy after being microwaved, but we spread it out to cool as instructed, and it was nice and crunchy.

We made the Original Chex Party Mix recipe together, and the kids and I had made some Muddy Buddies in advance for our guests to take home, substituting almond butter for the peanut butter. Emma approved – as did the other kids! It was fun to hear the moms talk about their families’ “secret” recipes.

Emma approvs of her chex mix!

I’m not sure how much dinner they ate that night, after all that Chex Mix…

  1. It’s hard to package something that usually gets eaten so quickly. Usually just store goodies in tupperware or a pretty bowl!

  2. I love muddy buddies and original party mix. i put them in a large mixing bowl!

  3. I love Chex cereals, but I’ve never gotten more creative than just making regular muddy buddies with them…packaged in a mixing bowl. =P

  4. Love to package as healthy treat for trickortreaters in small baggies with orange and black curly ribbons!

  5. wow– I love to make it and put it in a large decorator bowl for work debbie jackson

We don’t package the mix, because we eat it too quickly! I’ve only made muddy buddies before-yum!

  7. Hubby is always experimenting with Chex Mix. His “go to” is a combination of my grandma’s recipe and his grandma’s recipe. He’s also been known to make super-spicy versions for our neighbors. We just “package” it in a big freezer bag and snack on it until it’s gone!

  8. Wow. If it’s a party, it’s in a bowl and gone. IF it’s for family use, I bag it with snack baggies so it’s not gone instantly and built in portion control is a plus. Then I hide several bags so they’ll last awhile (and maybe I’ll get a taste!) Fun!

  9. Hmmm… favorite way to package Chex mix…. We never have the opportunity! As soon as I pull a batch out, we all just snack on it off the cookie sheet and it is gone before I know it! Chex mix is definitely a family tradition around our house for Thanksgiving and Christmas – it gives everyone something to snack on prior to dinner being ready.
