Simple Birthday Crafts

I stuck with simple crafts for Emma’s birthday party, after considering several much more elaborate options. Luckily, the kids liked them! These boxes were the main craft – I gave the kids foam shape stickers and stick-on jewels, and they went to town. No mess, and accessible to everyone, aged 2 to 6.

Cardboard Space Shuttle!

I love playing with cardboard, and this space shuttle is one of our fanciest creations! I created it as part of The Lights Project at ikat bag, but wanted to share it with my readers here as well (with LiEr’s blessing!)

LiEr sent me a string of ten LED lights from IKEA, which [...]

Salt Dough, Paint, and Making Messes

Emma made these lovely beads out of salt dough. We used 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of salt, and however much water it took to form a play dough-type consistency, then baked at 325 for maybe 20 minutes (larger objects would require more time). Then she painted them, mostly using a finger paint [...]

Temporary Children’s Wall Art

Vinyl wall décor is all the rage in children’s rooms right now, and this is a simple way to create your own! All you need is some contact paper (matte, if you can find it) and Sharpie pens!

It’s always a special treat when I let the kids use Sharpie pens, and I think [...]

Valentine’s Day With Kids

Happy Valentine’s Day! My kids are incredibly excited about this holiday, and it’s been fun celebrating with them – from making valentines to talking about things we like about friends and family members. Emma brought this cute heart guy home from school!

Emma also made a heart pillow for my sister K, who [...]

Cloth Kleenex: Easier on kids’ noses!

As regular readers of this blog know, our house has been sick a LOT lately! I cut up an old pair of flannel pajamas into square-ish shapes, serged the edges (a zig-zag stitch prevents fraying on a regular sewing machine, or you could always get fancy and hem them), and created instant cloth Kleenex [...]

Child-decorated Castle

I was thrilled to find this unfinished wooden castle at Michael’s before Christmas! The list price was $19.99, and I paid a lot less than that thanks to a coupon. It became Johnny and Lily’s Christmas present together with these knights and fairies – also purchased at Michaels with a coupon, thank you Ticia [...]

Color-me Heart Friends for Valentine’s Day!

For Valentine’s Day this year, I made these kids some color-me heart stuffies, inspired by our decorate-a-monster stuffies! They were very simple to make: cut a heart shape out of muslin (twice), stitch together, trim seam allowance, stuff, stitch shut, add a face, and hand to kiddos to play with! We decorate ours with [...]

Kindergarten Valentines

I love the variety five-year-old Emma put into these valentines – proof that sometimes it’s best to hand kids the supplies and leave them to it. They’ll do it differently on their own, and that can be a good thing!
