Get Ready for K Through Play button

Thank you to My Cute Graphics for the use of the superhero kids graphic.

Johnny will be my second child to start kindergarten this fall – and it will probably be quite the start! Kindergarten is always a big change – bigger classes and a huge focus on academics. For Johnny, there will be even more changes since we are moving from Massachusetts to California. We may be lucky and get settled in California in time for him to start up there with everyone else, but it’s looking much more likely that he will maybe have a few weeks of school here before entering a class there partway through the year.

Bernadette of Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas asked if I was interested in joining a blog hop all about kindergarten readiness, and I thought that was a great idea! Being prepared is always good, and even better when there are a lot of unknowns and new things to adjust to! I will be blogging about things you can do to get your child ready for kindergarten every Wednesday for the next eight weeks, and I will also be joined by Megan at Coffee Cups and Crayons, Vicky at Mess for Less, Cerys at Rainy Day Mum, and Kristina at Toddler Approved. Our Get Ready for K Through Play series is all about easy, fun and engaging activities that you can add to your summer days with minimal fuss and prep. Here is the entire series:

Join us each week as we help you Get Your Child Ready for K Through Play! Each of our blogs will offer playful learning ideas and activities on the week’s topic, and you can find even more ideas on our Get Ready for K Through Play Pinterest Board . If your kindergartener-to-be is as excited about kindergarten as mine is, this will be the perfect way to help them be patient all summer long!

  1. I can’t tell you how excited I am for this! Bear goes to K-garten in the fall of 2014, so I’m focusing on this coming year to get him ready to go!

Oh what a great idea! It’s wonderful that Johnny is excited and that you’re doing so much to get him ready. I hope he only has one new class to enter this fall rather than two, but I know you will do everything to make it as fun and easy for him as you can either way.

  3. I don’t have a rising Kindergarter anymore but I would have killed for this. It’s hard for me to do academics in a fun way. I’m old school. Love that you use play to make it fun. Perfect timing for summer too!

  4. What a great series – I’ll looking forward to following along. You always have great ideas and I really hope you make it to California in time for Johnny to start with his class. However, you are of course the best possible person to help him through the transition if that doesn’t happen:)

  5. Thank you for stopping by the Lily Pad and your kind words. I look forward to following your posts as I have two soon to be kindergartners!

  6. I’ll be looking forward to this series. My oldest is starting K5 in the fall and it will be in a new country! …and, like you, he’ll be joining the school a few weeks late. I’m really, really nervous, quite honestly.
