Improvised Snow

Johnny admires packing peanut "snow"

We recently received a package filled with packing peanuts – a real novelty for the kids. They weren’t supposed to get into it, but by the time I noticed (hazards of putting new pillow cases and sheets on beds) they were fully engaged in a “snow”-filled world. And all I could do pick up the camera to capture the moment.

Crushed packing peanuts were all over the kitchen floor. They picked them up, threw them in the air, and watched them fall in awe. They had made snow – that they could play in without feeling cold! Snow they could pick up and throw without wearing gloves or mittens! Snow they could walk in barefoot!

It made a big mess, and they had to help me clean it up. But it was worth it – to all of us.

And who knew – packing peanuts sound like popcorn when you vacuum them up!

  1. This happened last time we got a parcel too :-) such fun, it’s amazing how the simplest things make the best toys, warm wishes Kelly

  2. Looks like fun! I love how you enjoyed the moment with your kids. I think I would have looked at the mess and gotten frustrated!

I have MUCH experience with packing peanuts and know they’re almost impossible to clean-up. You are such a good sport for letting the kids have a go at such fun. I’m smiling! :)

    1. The secret is to have a vacuum with a hose – and use just the hose – time consuming, but much less frustrating than the alternative methods! =)

  4. Fabulous! What a wonderful memory to capture. :)

This is the kind of snow that would work here in Perth!
