Hexbug Halloween Party!

playing with Hexbugs

How many toys will entertain 15 kids spanning at least a decade in age? Hexbugs certainly can!

Zombie Hexbug Nanos

I was super excited to get an invitation from BSM Media to host a Halloween-themed Hexbug party. We hosted a similar party last year, and it was such a hit that one of the kid’s grandmothers wound up buying Hexbug Nano sets for all six of her children and their families that Christmas! I’m told that the grown children as well as grandchildren had a fantastic time racing their Nano bugs!

We already had a party planned the Saturday before Halloween for the families of a bunch of guys that Mike does youth volunteer work with. There were going to be 15 kids (plus one baby) attending. I knew Hexbugs would provide the perfect entertainment, and I wasn’t disappointed!

All of the kids had a blast with their Hexbugs, including one girl who was already a fan of the toys but hadn’t seen these particular ones. They were so well-entertained that the grown-ups had plenty of time for mellow conversation.

Glow in the dark hexbug track

These tracks (and the bugs) glow in the dark, which is pretty awesome. Lily’s new favorite thing to do to mellow out at bedtime is to go watch a couple Hexbugs run around the tracks. Then she tells them goodnight and falls asleep almost instantly once she’s in bed.

Johnny admires a Hexbug Larva

We got some Larva bugs to try out in addition to the Nano bugs this time. They look a little creepy and make a creeky noise when they move. I thought they would scare my kids, especially Lily, but they love them!

Emma shows me the Hexbug Larva's "eye"

Here Emma shows off the “eye” that allows Larva bugs to avoid obstacles. I think this is why Lily likes them – they NEVER crash into her. Their little wheels, do, unfortunately, catch hair, which makes them stop working (until you dig the hair out). So if you get them, be sure to play with them in a hair-free environment!

We had this party Saturday afternoon, and I was supposed to post this Monday morning in honor of Halloween. Unfortunately, the power went out Saturday night, and these pictures were stuck on my computer until yesterday evening, when power FINALLY came back on after over 113 hours!

  1. I’m in shock for how long you were without power. You must be so thankful to have it back on.

These sound awesome. I am impressed that the children (of the various ages) were all entertained with this product. They sure do like like fun.

  2. Five days without power with young kids? I hope you had a place to stay! The bugs look like fun toys!

    1. We spent a lot of time in my sister’s apartment – she lives about 35 minutes away. It is really nice to have a warm house again!

  3. Bummer about your power going out! I’m glad it’s back on. Those Hexbugs are really popular. My nephew loves them, but my sister doesn’t like how they look like bugs. LOL! The Christmas ones are cute though!

Entertaining 15 kids spanning a decade in ages… that’s fantastic. :) Glad you enjoyed the party before the power went out…

  5. So cool that you had such a fun toy to entertain all ranges of ages at your party! My kids have never played with hexbugs. I wonder if they would like them.
