Magic Carpet

2011_01_17_4112

As mentioned by Elisabeth in the comments yesterday, we have a new rug! Our tile floors used to be heated, and that was very nice. But ever since the radiant heat system failed (in 2009) and we were left with stone-cold (not to mention stone-hard) tile floors, I’ve wanted a nice rug for the living room. We finally purchased one last month, and the effect is quite astonishing! The rug is the center for all sorts of imaginative play, from pretending to be dragon hatchlings (see the photo above), to providing a space for goofing off with Daddy:

And serving as a soft place to run around and practice forward rolls!

I also appreciate the break the rug gives me from our rather unusual tile-floor pattern!

Is there something in your home that has transformed your daily life?

  1. Your new rug is very pretty! We have area rugs, but not nearly as nice as your new one–really like it, and I know what you mean about rugs making things so much better.

YES, our “big” room in our home has definitely transformed our lives! This room is such a lifesaver. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without it. It is large enough for rough play during the heat of the summer or cold months when we can’t get outside. It is also nice to be able to go to other parts of the house alone to enjoy quiet, and have my kids still be able to be loud and rambunctious.

  2. Good question! We are still settling in our house, even after 2 years in it, but I cannot say that any of our projects had true transformational impact. I guess new heater/air conditioner is the closest, since we can now watch a movie without feeling at times that we are on an airplane ready for take-off. I really like your pretty rug, and how fun that it serves so well in games and activities.

  3. We’re actually in the middle of a mini-transformation at this very moment… and putting a carpet down is going to be essential to making the transformation a positive one. It’s a special surprise for Michael and I’m sure I’ll blog about it tomorrow!! :)

  4. No transformations here yet. We bought new furniture when I was pregnant with Nudgie, but that’s about it so far.

Actually, I take that back. We had a big transformation in our back yard. We went from a barren desert to a lush green jungle thanks to a neighbor/landscaper. I love being able to hang out in the backyard now!

And have I mentioned how much I love the pictures you post of your family!! You are so blessed!
