Farmer’s Market: Take 2

Emma shows off a cherry tomato

In honor of Massachusetts Farmers Market Week and the blogathon set up by Loving Local, I thought we’d give visiting a farmer’s market another try. We dropped by the Bedford Farmers’ Market, and everyone was much happier this time round. It wasn’t quite as hot, and we found a parking spot right next to the market. We bought a pint of delicious cherry tomatoes and some green beans. I tried to convince my kids that we should get a yellow cucumber instead of the cherry tomatoes, but they were not interested.

The highlight for both of them was getting their hands stamped at one of the booths:

getting hand stamps at the farmers market

We plan to visit a few more farmers’ markets over the next few weeks – and hopefully I’ll get my kids to branch out and try some less familiar vegetables! Hopefully the combination of visiting farms, farmers’ markets, and planting our own tomatoes and strawberries will give my kids a better understanding and appreciation of where food comes from!

  1. We get our produce delivered from the local coop once a week, but I like visiting farmer’s market – the hustle and bustle is a lot of fun. Too bad that we don’t have one within walking distance any longer. Emma looks very happy with her cherry tomato :)

  2. I have yet to do this with my kids, and really want to. There is nothing better than fresh fruits and vegetables. That’s a cute picture of Emma.

    you reminded me we missed our farmers market today :( my kids love to go and pick out their fruits & veggies but I find thursday afternoons so hard to do. ours is only open on thurs from 2-6 so when the baby naps late until 4ish and then I have to cook dinner and hubby is out of town – it’s nearly impossible. oh well – maybe next week!!!!!! glad you guys had fun :)

    1. @Elisa – I’m glad my kids aren’t the only ones who love hand stamps =)

      @Harriet – That’s very neat! Local farm-grown produce is always delicious!

      @Ticia – That’s a shame. A farmer’s market with good selection is a lot of fun!

      @Jackie – I’ve had the same problem. Hope you make it next week!

    My kids would have been most excited about the hand stamping, too. :) I’m glad your second foray into farm-direct produce was a more positive experience than the first one.

  5. I should take my kids to our local farmer’s market – maybe it would encourage my picky eater to be more adventurous if he saw that much variety and got to choose!

  6. I love farmers markets! I was lucky enough to live in an area this year which had a farmers market twice a week, we’d quite often go down there on a weekend and see what was around. It looks like you had a great day!
