Easy DIY Felt Nativity Scene

Easy DIY felt nativity tutorial

I made this felt Nativity Scene for our felt board using this free nativity scene pattern from Under My Umbrella. The pattern was designed for wood cut-outs, but it works perfectly for felt!

How to Make a Felt Nativity Scene

This felt nativity scene was really easy to make! Since the shapes are silhouette, cutting them out is easy and quick.

Materials Needed to Make a Felt Nativity Scene

  • Felt. Wool felt is lovely, but if you are looking to save money I also recommend this polyester felt.
  • Sharp scissors – otherwise cutting the felt will drive you crazy! These Ghinger sewing shears are an investment, but mine have lasted since 1998 without any issues.
  • Felt board. Follow the tutorial for the felt board featured above, or try making a simple hoop felt board. In either case, I recommend using fleece rather than felt for the actual board. It is nice and stretchy so you can get a snug fit, and felt sticks to it beautifully. There are also some great felt boards you can buy, such as:
    • Flannel Tabletop Easel. This one is nice because it stands up on its own. It is fairly large – 18 by 24 inches.a
    • Felt Notice Board. This one stands out because it is very large – 36 by 24 inches.

DIY Felt Nativity Scene Instructions

  1. Download the free Nativity template from Under My Umbrella
  2. Cut out of felt
  3. Enjoy!

It really is as simple as that!

  3. I love it! I just got felt for Christmas (funny how items I’ll use for our son – like a laminating machine or felt – become gifts for me, but crafty things are my favorites gifts), and I have been meaning to get a nativity. Next year I’ll do this for sure. We just made a road scene felt set tonight. Maybe I’ll blog about it this week. He loved it for a good hour at least.
